West Barnstable Tables was established on historic Cape Cod in 1970. The founders, Dick Kiusalas and Steve Whittlesey, shared a desire to build easy to live with, creative furniture from old wood and other materials that could be salvaged from dismantled antique buildings, boats, pianos, wagons and what have you. Its been some years later and Dick has only deepened his roots here in West Barnstable, focusing largely on antique pine dating back to the 16th and 17th century. Many boards show the character of their age in distress marks and deep rich color, and Dick is well known for his pieces showcasing antique paint and staircase patterns. During his growth he took on several apprentices, some of which still show their work here. About 20 years ago, Rick Moran set up shop in the basement and now produces much of the new hardwood pieces we have in Cherry, Box Elder, Black Walnut, Tiger, Birdseye and Spalted Maples. Rick's style is shaker inspired and he is well known for his use of real Ebony wood pulls and accents.
